Taipei, Taiwan

Friday, February 8

Unfortunately we woke up to a dreary, rainy day. We got an early shuttle into the city and the whole place still seemed asleep when we arrived. Mama and I walked around a bit in the morning and just explored some parks and a museum that were open that early. We had a great guide on our bus that brought us into Taipei and she agreed to meet anyone from the group (of probably 35) for lunch at the famed Din Tai Fung as she can go straight to the front of the queue as a guide. It also happens to be at the base of the Taipei 101 tower, which is an amazing location with tons of activity and an electric atmosphere!

Mama and I were totally up for a guided visit to Din Tai Fung, so we met 3 others (couldn’t believe more people didn’t show!) for one of the most fabulous meals of our trip. We had perfect fried rice, multiple varieties of soup dumplings, steamed dumplings, garlic baby bok choi, egg soup, all topped of with a delicious and light Taiwan beer. I ate until I couldn’t anymore.

That afternoon we had a few hours to ride the Hop On Hop Off bus around the city to view the gorgeous temples and historic buildings. Thank goodness for the bus as it wasn’t the best day overall and that allowed us to see a lot in a short amount of time without being too cold or wet!

It felt like a brief view of a large city, but I loved Taiwan overall. The country seems very clean, organized, friendly, and safe. I certainly hope to make it back!
