Wednesday, October 2 – Friday, October 4
Fazi and I left Barcelona and took the train about 50 minutes north to Mataró, where our bestie Maria lives with her boyfriend Jose. After all the chaos and endless walking and touring we did in Barcelona, this was just what we needed! They have a really cute top floor apartment with a view of the ocean from the balcony– yes, please!
Maria spoiled us by jumping into chef mode right away! Our first day she made creamy pasta with fresh salmon for lunch. Then we hit the streets for a walk around town. We stopped for a leisurely drink in the cutest back patio at LaBoel where we got to catch up for the first time since we were all together at Wonderland back in March! After that, we ended up at a cool old restaurant called Bar Europa where we had the best scallops I’ve ever had I think.

Literally, the best I’ve ever had!
Thursday, October 3
And today, we really start our lessons in Spanish cooking! Maria is teaching us how to make Spanish tortilla with little mini clams.

I’m sorry, it really doesn’t get any cuter than little Fazilet!

Then we head out for a walk down to the beach. We dawdle around town checking out shops and exploring in general. Lucky for us, when we get down to the water it’s dusk and we see the most beautiful color transitions at sunset!

Alrighty, it’s dark out, time to eat again! We walk back into town to eat some tapas and have a little vino de la casa.

Just a perfect, chill day with friends in Spain!
Friday, October 4
Maria had some appointments throughout today, so Fazi and I had the slowest morning ever. Spanish slow. Like, lunch at 4pm slow. But that has it’s rewards! When Maria got home, we got to make paella!

Fazi, so proud to be cleaning squid!

Making our own stock

Forget eating out when you have this kind of food at home
We ended the night with music by Maria and Jose, dancing by Fazi….and I’m not sure what I brought to the table….
